Acacia's eyes locked on the last one to hatch. That one was so pretty... Of course, it couldn't compare to the beautiful ruby red color of the Often Tested, Never Bested dragon. But the yellow one had an adorable vulnerability about it that made it cute. She just wondered now which one of the remaining dragonets would call her Mine. ________
The Honor, Valor, Victory green dragonet still wandered amongst the dwindling candidates, finally giving a croon that had an odd resonance with Cairrean, making her turn toward the creature. It tried to make a graceful approach towards her before failing miserably and becoming a tangled mess of dragonet at her feet. I guess Ruunath could have done better, huh CairreanMine? she chirped sheepishly, but her mind sparkled with laughter, and just a touch of annoyance at having been so foolish. The Green's eyes whirred rainbow, and Cairrean knelt down in front of the splayed dragoness, laughing softly.
"Everyone has their moments Ruunath," Cairrean replied, smiling lovingly down at the Green. "Welcome to Earth."
Earth? Ruunath replied, tilting her head. Mine, I do not know this... Earth... Can you tell me more while I eat?
"Alright," the girl said with a laugh. She picked the Green up, for Ruunath was on the small side, and carried her over to the food. Cairrean pulled the small cooler over to where she put Ruunath and opened it, pulling out a handful of cubed ham. "Eat slowly now. We don't want to be kept up all night because you ate too much too fast."

The In All Things Prepared egg broke apart, leaving a gold-tinted brownish dragonet with brassy scales. This dragonet walked up to the First Among Equals which was breaking but not letting the dragonet out yet. The blue from the By Arms and Courage egg found his rider who announced his name and that he was a blue, not some kind of mutation. Gavin's attention was distracted from this by a bubble of motion coming towards him. The Not for Self, but for All dragonet was walking toward him, bumping into people in the process. She was trying but just didn't seem to get how to keep her wings and tail organized enough not to hit people with those clumsy baby body parts. Gavin stared at the dragonet; its hide really wasn't as ugly as it had looked from a distance.
The least flattering of the clutch waddled its way through the thinning crowd, trying as hard as it could not to hurt anyone. Jessie took a tail to the gut, and who knows who else got hurt. The dragonet seemed almost apologetic, like someone moving through a crowded subway train, as she worked her way through. Wait... her? How could you possibly know that? Well I would hope you knew your Tevvth was a she. A soft voice trickled into Gavin's mind, rather pleasant and uplifting, like a breeze on a hot summers day. And that she would like to be fed. she sat with a sigh, Oh! But don't fret too much, I can always wait a moment if I have to.
"Of course I can feed you now, Tevvth. I just didn't know we were meant for each other." Gavin led the dragonet over to his cooler of meat and started to feed her slowly. What color was she anyway?
I am an Agate, of course. He spoke up, "Her name is Tevvth and she is an Agate."

D'rius and Arielle both looked over as the largest egg broke apart, revealing its pale occupant. "A Gold," the young man murmured, and Arielle heard the relief in his tone. There was no mistaking the young Queen for anything but what she was, at least for anyone who knew about the Pernese dragons. And the relief in the BronzeWeyrling's tone spoke volumes.
"You feared there was no Queen," she said quietly, and he nodded.
"There was no egg with the sheen we had been taught to expect," he replied, and she inclined her head, accepting that. She then looked over, stroking Duluth gently, who was thrumming softly beside her, causing her to smile. The two humans and the Brown returned to watching the goings on, and D'rius smiled as he saw the new Impressions, motioning to the new Bluerider to join them, then giving G'vin a thumb's up.

I SEE YOU
Ellie blinked, startled enough to still her incessant bouncing about long enonugh to look around, clearly perplexed. Of course a second latter a few of her fellow candidates scurried to the side and the little green, clumsy and moving far too fast for her new legs to keep up. With a giggle, she watched the dear little thing tumble head first and land sprawled at her bare feet, eyes sparking with a glorious rainbow. Feelings encroached and slowly engulfed Ellie's mind; happiness, rightness...and hunger, oh the hunger! Please, Elliemine, won't you feed your Lollath?
With a squeal that would not doubt make other wince, Ellie nearly pounced on the young dragon, hauling her up and setting her to rights though she was reluctant to release her. Dragons were real! The looked a little funny, but they were real!!! "Holy Hera! I can't believe it!" She let out another squeal and began jumping around. For a moment Lollath was confused but she too joined in, bouncing around until her limbs tangled and she went sprawling again with a sound of dismay.
Giggling, Ellie stooped and righted the little green, then on a whim, hauled her up into her arms, tail dragging behind her as she lugged the newly hatched green towards the food. She was the first dragonrider of Earth! The very first! Another squeal of delight escaped her and she bounced slightly. I smell food! You smell like food. Lollath squirmed in Elizabeth's arms, forcing her to finally put the green down or risk dropping her. It was a short bouncy walk to the buckets and she was shortly joined by Darius who had become the second dragonrider.
Pulling Lollath's head out of the bucket into which she'd shoved it, Ellie plopped down on the ground then hauled the little green into her lap before sliding a bucket closer. Lollath settled as Ellie began to feed her by hand, bit by bit, from the bucket, her other hand curiously seeking out the patches of faded evergreen. Certainly she was nothing like what Ellie had expected--none of the dragons were--but Lollath was hers and she was perfect!
Looking up from her task of feeding the green, Ellie flashed a grin at Darius...was he D'rius now? She spared an awestruck look for his new companion then on a whim and full to bursting with love, she hugged Lollath. The green tried to twist her head about to look at Ellie and only ended up knocking heads with her which made the ginger-haired girl giggle.
As time passed more eggs hatched though sitting on the floor, Ellie couldn't quite see them until they joined herself and D'rius to feed their new lifemates. A brown, a blue, another bronze and some strange brown that wasn't a brown joined along with another green. Overstimulated and overexcited it was all Ellie could to to keep from exploding with another squeal so instead she wrapped her arms around the dragon in her lap and stared at the others. You are excited. I am excited. We should play, will the others play? Oh that feels nice. Thoughts of play fled when Ellie started to rub a patch of scales.

The Guard the Peace dragonet seemed to have had enough of inspecting the area and made its way over to Jessie, almost begudgingly, and let it's eyes shift rainbow as the connection was made. She smiled like the had never smiled before and reached out to stroke the darkly colored baby's headknobs, "Oh Zedavith, you're certainly the most handsome Onyx ever." Well I would certainly hope so. Considering I'm the only one.. "Well even if there were a hundred you still would be." The black dragon huffed as if unbelieving but his chest puffed out with pride as she led him to the buckets of food.
The Often Tested, Never Bested and First Among Equals dragonets approached the remaining two girls, the latter giving way to the former, out of respect or out of protectiveness couldn't be certain, but whichever way it was the ruby-scaled dragon blew her off a bit and confidently approached the girls, giving them both the once over. Snorting at Acacia much like she had the golden dragonet's egg she butted her head against Taylor in the softest expression she'd shown since she hatched.
Once the more abrasive dragonet had made her choice, the little gold dragonet approached Acacia, her faceted eyes having changed to rainbow long before the other had chosed Taylor. She walked slowly up to her Chosen, finally seeming to have coordinated all her limbs, though she would still glance to make sure everything was in its right place.

The final two dragonets approached, almost as if friends, before the ruby-scaled dragonet shrugged off the golden-scaled one and strode to inspect Taylor and Acacia. Though the more bold dragon stood before Acacia, looking her over, a gentler presence whispered at the edges of her mind. As the Often Tested, Never Bested dragonet made its chioce with Taylor, the First Among Equals dragonet slowly came forth, Back, front. Back, front. Hey, this is pretty easy! a soft and cheery voice rippled in her mind, a sense of pride flowing with it. She looked around, then at the little Gold, for of course she was a Gold. And... Look at me, AcaciaMine, your Kestrith is walking! And not tripping around like poor Lollath. Acacia gasped softly as she recognized the feelings that filled her mind. This was hers. She fell to her knees and embraced the Gold. Then she realized something.
"Does... Does this make me..."
AcaciaMine, you are the Weyrwoman now, yes? Because your Kestrith chose you. Kestrith nuzzled Acacia's cheek. You will do fine AcaciaMine. I know this because I know you! Now, will you feed me? At that moment, Acacia felt the gnawing hunger in her own stomach. She let her new Bonded go and smiled into Kestrith's eyes.
"Come on then," Acacia said. "Let's get you something to eat." She stood and picked up Kestrith, heading over to the others. "We're all Weyrlings now... But... Do we just teach ourselves things? Do we even have any oil for their hides?" There were things that she suddenly just knew, as if Impressing Kestrith had given her some sort of knowledge. But it hadn't, not much, not really. She just felt the phantom tail itching. "Does anyone else have the weird phantom tail itching?" She put Kestrith down and went to the cooler she and her sister had bought. "I guess we didn't need to bring so much, huh?" She sat down indian style in front of the Gold and handed her a small handful of meat, a bit of pulled pork. "There's a lot of different stuff in here, so we can find something you like. How's that sound?"
It sounds fine to me, Kestrith replied, her mouth full.

Arielle cocked her head slightly as she watched the final Impressions, and she sensed D'rius beside her shrug. Why she wasn't sure, and glancing at him, she found no answer. She then looked at the new Goldrider and cleared her throat softly. "Well, if we go by the information found in the Guide, we should be able to manage somehow, right?" she asked quietly, a little hesitantly. She was still an outsider to their group, despite Duluth's choice of her, and she knew it. "I mean, it tells how the Weyrlings are normally trained, how they care for their dragons and how the lessons generally run. All we have to do is follow it." Her voice grew stronger, more certain, as she continued, as she unconsciously slipped into teacher mode. These new riders, herself included, were all beginners to this BEING riders thing, all unsure and worried. She wanted to prove herself useful to them in some way, if she could. At her side, Duluth raised his head, giving a low rumble of agreement with his Mine, and near her, she sensed the first BronzeWeyrling nodding, almost in approval?
"She's right," D'rius said firmly, willing to back up their fellow rider, even if she had only been here by pure chance. They had to stick together, or who knew what would happen. They couldn't risk failing. He sensed Orlynth waking, and the Bronze lifted his head and made a soft crooning noise, and he smiled, brushing a hand down the little male's head.

"Well, we have to find oil for their hides," Acacia said. "And... We should probably figure out who's going to be the leader... At least for now." Being Impressed to the only Gold, she felt it her responsibility to mention these things. But she wasn't really sure how a Weyrwoman, or even just the Bonded of a Gold, was supposed to act. She sighed. "Oh, forget it... Trying to act like that is just not me."
But Mine, are you not Weyrwoman? Kestrith asked.
"There aren't enough Earth dragons right now for us to go simply by color," Acacia told her Gold. "We have to work together to figure this out, and that won't happen by simply saying I'm in charge because you're a Gold. It might end up that way eventually, but not for a while yet." She rubbed Kestrith's head. "You're the first Gold on Earth. We all must be patient so the wrong people don't find out about you. I don't want you taken from me." With that, she looked over at Jessie. "Jess, you're the one who founded the Club, so I think it's only fair for you to decide."
"I agree," Cairrean said, holding a drowsy Ruuneth close. "I don't know as much about Pernese dragons as you do, so I think it's only right."

Effectively pinned to the floor by a well fed hatchling, Ellie did her best to keep up with the conversation around her. Lollath proved to be mightily distracting, however, and she only clued into the conversation when it turned to something she might be able to help with. Oiling the dragons was something that she'd thought about and she'd inadvertently left her suggestion in her van but she could still bring it out in the open. Trying to shift beneath a supremely comfortable young green proved difficult but she finally managed to wriggle out from under Lollath and push herself to her feet.
"Well I was thinking that we could try baby oil? But with the scales and all the other weird stuff I don't know that it will work quite as well." Lollath hauled herself up to her feet and ventured away from Ellie just far enough to inspect Zedavith. Of course this inspection included walking right up to him until she was well within what would be deemed a polite distance. Ellie thinks your color is strange. I like it though. But what is baby powder?

Jessie was slowly hading bits of meat to Zedavith as she kept an eye on the final two dragonets. One was almost positively a gold... but what of the one with Ruby scales? It stepped forward to choose Taylor, who caressed the dragonet's head, "Of course you are, Petrinth." she assured her, leading the largest of the strangely colored dragonets to the food to feed her. "She's a Garnet, or so she tells me. And thinks- sorry dear-" She cut off to look at her "- knows she is a Queen." Jessie stopped to consider that new bit of information. She had never thought there would be anything other than a Gold as a queen. She is a Queen as surely as I am a King. She then looked at her own dragonet with wide eyes, she knew he was large, but a KING. But... Girls don't ride Kings... Zedavith rumbled in amusement before turning to Lollath as Ellie spoke to his rider. It is good, is it not? he responded, puffing up a bit, Though I believe she said baby oil? I do not know why they would make oil out of babies, however. It seems rather crude. Jessie burst out laughing at the Onyx dragonet, who looked at her, just as bewildered as she had when he'd stated he was a king. "Baby oil is not made from babies, dear one. It's to keep babies from getting dry skin, just as we don't want you to get dry hide." "I think baby oil might just work. I'll do some research tonight. Maybe they have something for reptiles wo aren't shedding right?" she shrugged and handed Zedavith another piece of meat as he butted her gently with his head. "And as for leadership... I think all of us are pretty clueless right now. I mean, we've all read the books, but there's so much here already that the books could never help us with. Scales, new colors, a threat we're not even sure will happen... I think we should vote on it. Elect a stand-in leader until the dragons are old enough to at least fly or flame." She sighed. Flaming. They still needed a firestone stand-in. There were phosphane bearing rocks in only a select few places in the US. But that would have to wait for another time. There was still the adult to deal with too. She had been hoping things would be so much smoother than this, but the first Pernese settlers had a hard time, so it stood to reason they would too. So everyone can see what Petrinth looks like :3

Kestrith narrowed her eyes at Petrinth, not appreciating the challenge of her leadership. Acacia got to her knees next to the Gold, putting a hand on the dragonet's head. "Easy Kestrith," she said quietly. "Wait until you're older. Then you can decide the leader by the first to Rise. That's how it was decided in the books at least." Kestrith's eyes remained narrowed, but she nodded just the same.
Very well AcaciaMine. I will wait. It was obvious that the Gold didn't want the Garnet around, but hopefully Acacia could get Kestrith to at least tolerate Petrinth for a few years before they could Rise.
"Congrats 'Cia," came a voice from behind the new GoldRider. Aster hugged her sister, smiling.
"Thanks sis," Acacia replied. "As long as she doesn't go after Petrinth, we should be fine..." She sighed softly. "And I guess I should study up on being a Weyrwoman. I mean, we have to learn all of this on our own. We don't have anyone to teach us... All we have are the books. But we'll do the best we can."
"And you're not alone ya know," Aster reminded her. "I'm your sister. I'll help in any way I can."
"We're all here for each other," Cairrean piped up. "No one's on their own here. We're all in this together.

Gavin, no G'vin, and wasn't it strange to be thinking of himself as that? As a dragonrider, a thing from books and not meant to be real. The Red Star was real though, horribly real, and if what The Stranger had told Jessie was true, Thread was real too. What were they going to do about that and about the dragons in general? Taking care of the babies had seemed to be a time consumer on the level of school or a full-time job in the books. How were they going to balance that and their usual activities enough to keep the babies a secret and keep them safe until they were needed to fly Thread. He continued feeding Tevvth chunks of raw meat from his lunch cooler, feeling the stickiness of the meat juice drying on his hands. Then G'vin heard some of the girls discussing who was going to be Weyrwoman and mentioning that the books did it by which dragon was the first to Rise. He decided to speak up about that idea.
"Why should we decide by Flight at all? Our dragons are different so why should we follow the books on that. Dragon color doesn't always correspond with leadership anyway. Look at Kylara and T'bor. Their dragons certainly didn't pick people who were good leaders."

Taylor felt this overwhelming love arise in her as she fed Petrinth, "She is a Queen, she will be a Queen, and since it will be judged by first to Rise....we both should spend time studying on how to be Weyrwomen." Taylor said to Acacia. She felt almost challenged by Acacia's whisper to the Gold she managed to over hear. Petrinth noticed her sister's look and shot a look back, followed by a hiss with her tongue flicking in and out.
~I am a Queen, I am of her status. You will be Weyrwoman, we shall Rise first!~ Petrinth said to her mine, which shocked Taylor. "Now hold 'em up! I ain't trynna be in a race for that...both of you need to calm down. Not like either of you can fly or command anyways." She said sternly, then proceeded to think about how funny it will be to watch the two sisters fight for dominance...but would that cause problems between Acacia and herself?
