She made her way quickly down the hall, trying to avoid the other students, doing her best to not hit anyone with her bassoon case. The final bell had already rung a while ago, but she had needed to attend her private lesson first. She hoped they were still here. The Dragon Riders of Pern Club members.
Cairrean was wearing jeans, an old pair of Sketchers, a blue Tinker Bell t-shirt, and her Indigo League Pokemon cap. She had a backpack thrown over her shoulder, a single-strap white with a blue floral pattern. Inside the backpack she had her music folder, a textbook, and a free-time book titled Dragonflight. She slowed her steps as she neared the club room door, suddenly nervous. She stopped and sighed. She wanted to be part of this club. She'd read all kinds of dragon books, from Dragonflight in her backpack to the Inheritance cycle, even the books about the clay dragons that became real in the hands of certain people. She was no good at drawing dragons, but her cousin had given her a few pictures. She even had the Brisingr deluxe edition, which came with a poster of the dragon and the main protagonist of the series. She loved dragons. Her main team on her Pokemon Black 2 video game was made of dragons. Speaking of, she had her Special Edition Animal Crossing 3DS in her backpack too. With her Pokemon Black 2 game.
She stopped in front of the door and took a breath. She knocked on the club door with her free hand, making sure her cap was secure. She had thought about what she was going to say all during her first day of classes.
Speaking of. She was still the new girl. She had sat alone at lunch that day, and she'd gotten strange looks from the other students. Even in the band, she'd gotten strange looks from the Flute and Percussion kids. She was just lucky the other Bassoonist happened to have his private lesson right after school. This was her chance to find her place to belong. She sighed softly, waiting for someone to come to the door.

Jessie sighed as she looked at the papers under her nose. Books lay scattered around the table, many peppered with bookmarks and post-it notes. Before her lie half-finished notes about anything and everything Hatching and Dragonet related. Sure, she preobably knew it all by heart, but it never hurt to go ovre it one more time. Maybe she would even organize it all for the others to read up on, just in case. The urge to burst out the doors and run to her mansion to check the hardening eggs was nearly overwhelming, but she knew whoever was assigned to watch them today was more than capable of making sure they stayed safe. Maybe this was what a mother dragon felt like?
She was disturbed from her wanderings by a knock at the door. Or was there a knock? She hastily closed books and put her notes under a pile of books before tightening her ponytail and walking to the door. She peered through the tall, thin window offset to one side, above the door handle to see if her suspicions were correct, and they were. It was a knock indeed. Her eyes fell on the pokemon cap first before sliding down to the face.
She opened the door halfway, enough to be polite but not enough to be an invitation into the room. None of the others were here yet, probably gossiping with their other friends before they went to home to to their own after-school activities. "Hey there." she gave a small smile, inspecting the rest of the girl before her. If gossip memory served her right (and it usually did) this was the new girl. Didn't it start with a K? Or maybe it was a C... something with one of those two sounds. All she remembered was it was a different sort of name.

She took a breath as the door opened. "Hi," she said quietly. She swapped her bassoon case from one hand to the other. The thing wasn't exactly light, after all. "I'm Cairrean." She pronounced it Karen. She knew the story behind her name, but it wasn't important now. "I... I heard about the club from some classmates, and... I wanted to ask... If... It I could join." She set her bassoon case down and flipped her backpack around. She pulled out Dragonflight.
"I just moved here from Houston," she told the girl. "This... This is my first day..." She wasn't sure what else to say at this point. There wasn't much else to say. Until the girl before her spoke, Cairrean had nothing to say. She rezipped her backpack and flipped it the way it belonged. She still held the book in her hand, and left the bassoon case on the floor. She waited for the girl's answer, slightly nervous still.

Jessie studied the girl for a moment, eyes falling to the book in her hand. Well, they certainly could use more members. She gave a small smile, "Texas huh? Not bad." She held out a hand "I'm Jessie, the creator of the Dragon Riders of Pern Club." She ten waved her into the room and to a chair across from the one in which she had been studying and waited for her to sit before taking her own seat.
"But we do have a test to pass, you know. Can't have any old person who's read half a book in here." she grinned, quickly moving a stray note in with the others before pulling out a sheet of paper not unlike a survey or quiz. Among the questions were things such as "What dragon is your favorite color of dragon?" and "What was your favorite book?"
"Just fill this out real quick, doesn't have to be anything too crazy, simple is just fine, and we can go from there."

Cairrean took the girl's hand, smiling. She followed Jessie into the room and sat in the indicated chair. She nodded. "I'm not surprised," she said in answer to the subject of the test. "I'll admit that I haven't read all of the books, but I'm hoping to eventually read them all if I can." She pulled a pen out of her backpack and filled in the questions. Favorite dragon color... Well, honestly, she liked them all. Though certain dragons did hold higher positions in her heart. She secretly had a love of the Gold dragons because of their ability to make others listen to them, because they never went unnoticed unless they wanted to. Her favorite book was actually the short story "The Girl Who Heard Dragons." Sure it was in the book with the same name, but it was a short story that had been a cliffhanger.
What else about the Pern universe did she like? The simplistic living style. If there was less technology, people would be less stuck on themselves and more social. Though she wouldn't be able to get used to something like wearing tunics too quickly. And having a Flitter as a pet would be an amazing thing! Watch-Whers were a bit on the dumb side when compared to a dragon, though they were a bit smarter than the average dog. The ability to hear all dragons would be an incredible ability too. A gift with a good few negatives, like anything else.
She finished filling out the paper and handed it back to Jessie. "I hope you'll allow me to join your club," she said with a smile.

Taylor sat on top of the student desk top with her Justin boots in the seat. She was wearing her favorite pair of holey jeans and a black crew neck shirt; she dressed nice and simple, she tended to fit in with the country crowd. She had joined DRoP Club, simply because she and Jessie had bonded so beautifully in a class when it came to the magical world of Pern.
She wasn't bent over a book, but over her iPhone as she caught herself up in her forum in which she roleplayed DRoP in secret. Hell, most of her other friends didn't even know she was in the DRoP Club, it wasn't their business. She tended to get along with everyone in school, so it wouldn't have come as a big shock either way.
Taylor raised up from her phone to eye Cairrean. She switched her gaze to Jessie and shrugged, turning back to her phone for a second before sliding it into her pocket. She stretched out and kicked one leg over the other, crossing her knees and leaning forward a little as she watched Jessie interact with Cairrean. She could tell the new girl wasn't one of the crowd Taylor found herself running with, but she seemed alright.
"Hello there..." she said, a southern drawl could be detected in her words...and it only got worse if she was mad.

Jessie flipped through Dragonsdawn, a slight scowl passing over her face for a moment as she tried to locate the pages where it described the first Hatching. It was the only thing she hadn't studied (since the arrival of the eggs anywho) in her search for what the future of the dragonets might hold. The first hatching was much different from the rest, so any different details would be nice. She found the pages she was looking for a stuck a few scraps of paper in it for later before setting it aside as Cairrean finished her application.
Though the Club didn't really have an application. She glanced it over, taking more time on certain questions. She had come up with the 'test' as a way to pre-screen any new members for potential candidacy. "Looks good to me." she smiled. holding out her hand for a shake, "Welcome to the Dragon Riders of Pern Club! Of course, we have several copies of all the books. You're more than welcome to take a couple so long as they get returned. And the others shoud come around at some point, there no official meeting today so I'm not sure who will show."

At that moment the door opened and one of the Club's few males strode in, shaking his black hair out of his face. He had a grease stain on his jeans as well as smeared across one cheek, and sweat still sheened on his forehead. "Sorry, was coming back to-" he trailed off as he saw the new girl, looking swiftly to Jessie. He'd not finished his sentence, which would have mentioned their secret, and his blue eyes were questioning as they remained on her, one dark brow rising in unspoken query about her status and knowledge.

Taylor looked towards Darius with her big green eyes wide, holding her breath. She knew what he was about to say and was more thankful he said nothing at all. She let out her breath and said, "We have a new girl!" She grinned and looked at Jessie, "I think she will suit just fine." She smiled at the girl, "I'm Taylor, nice to meet you."

Cairrean took Jessie's hand, then turned to Taylor. "Hello," she said politely. She put her pen back in her backpack and placed her bassoon case next to the table leg. "I'm Cairrean, the new girl in school. Or at least, that seems to be my nickname here." She rolled her eyes. "I moved here from Houston." She pulled off her Indigo League cap, revealing her long brown hair that fell just past her shoulder blades. "I hope you'll accept me as a member..." Now that she'd found a group that she belonged to, she was becoming more sure of herself. It was obvious, too.
They didn't know it, but she'd been a bit of a loner before now. Only a few people knew the real her. The few people who were her true friends. One of the boys she was still in contact with from Houston was one of the few people she fully trusted. Maybe these people would become friends like that too.

Taylor smiled, "Well I don't see why not...you seem nice enough. We do need more Pern lovers like us anyways!" She cut her eyes over at Darius, then to Jessie. "Anyways, you've read the Dragonlovers Guide to Pern, right? I've been studying that one hard recently. I think Jessie should try that one." She grabbed her bookbag and pulled the hardback book out and handed it over to Jessie, "It's always a big help. It highlights a lot of points." She said.
Little to anyone's knowledge but her own, Taylor had spent much time studying the guide in order to figure out some of the things before the new dragonets hatched and studying things on good ol' Google. She had highlighted points in the Guide and also stuck print outs in the book.

Darius was blinking as he watched the girls interact, inclining his head in greeting as Cairrean was introduced to him. "Pleasure. I'm Darius," he said mildly. He then glanced at Jessie once more, moving closer to her. He had a piece of paper in his hand that had several questions that had been running through his head the past few days. He didn't immediately hand it to her, waiting patiently for her to ask for it.
He had been combing the Pernese books, searching, hunting for some way to determine certain things that had to do with the world itself, hunting for a place they could go when the dragons got too BIG to remain at the Mansion. Because it would happen eventually. Dragons just grew too fast and got too big....

Jessie smiled as the other members greeted their newest member. "Darius and Taylor are two of the counsel members of the Club." she nodded to each of them in turn as they introduced themselves. "There's Seven of us altogether and we make the more important club decisions, though any of us can accept anyone into the club without needing to talk to the others." She searched her brain for a moment for a way to accept the items from her fellow Eggkeepers without hinting at anything strange or seem too awkward to Cairrean before suddenly having a lightbulb moment.
"Ah! Good to see you guys are doing your work for the debate!" She accepted the Dragonlover's Guide from Taylor and held out her hand for Darius's paper before placing them both on the table with her other notes. She would have to talk to them after Cairrean left and see what sort of ideas they had. "We often have debates on the less-clear points of Anne's work. Though sometimes we also come up with our own far-fetched ideas to keep everyone thinking." she explained to Cairrean. "Right now it's a debate about what effects Earth's slightly different atmosphere and terrain distribution would do to Dragons if science were ever to advance far enough to create them here." She didn't see any harm in making the concept into a club-wide thing. After all, out-of-the-loop members would easily give a objective view of the situation. She glanced at her fellow Keepers to see if they seemed to uncomfortable with the idea.

Neither of the other members really paid her much attention, so she thought about the concept that Jessie presented her. "Well, it would depend, really, on whether they were created here or somehow brought here from Pern," she began. "I wouldn't put a scales mutation past the dragons, though. Scales to protect their hides from the elements of a new world. And, since Earth is more technologically advanced than Pern, that might pose a problem for feeding the dragons, especially Hatchlings." She didn't know that they were probably taking her words seriously. "I wouldn't be surprised if dragons on Earth had more mutations; multiple wings, a missing tail, or even a whole new set of colors."
She looked down at the book in her hands. "But, what would really worry me is how the world would react to creatures as large as a house who had previously been nothing but myth, legend, and really vicious in the Harry Potter books. I mean, it's a fact that mankind fears what it cannot understand... Would the world be ready for the introduction of dragons? And what about Firestone? How would they get that here? Or would they even need it if there was no Thread, no Red Star?" She had opened up surprisingly quickly, but she soon realized what she was saying, her cheeks turning pink.
"I didn't mean to let that get away from me as much as it did," she said with a quiet laugh. "I mean, it would be incredible if there were dragons on Earth, but we have to be realistic."

Darius was listening to her comments, and soon sat down and began writing them down to be debated on later by the Seven. She had some good points, he thought, looking over what he'd written. He was acting as unofficial RecordsKeeper, just in case, since they all knew what had happened to Pern due to a lack of proper recordkeeping, and he was fastidious in making sure those things he wrote down were protected, so they wouldn't fail.
He cocked his head slightly for her comment about how the world would view the dragons sudden appearance and cleared his throat slightly. "The world over has myths, legends, about dragons. To me, at least, and apparently to the people at Animal Planet, that means SOMETHING. What if, at some point, they DID exist here?" he asked, his blue eyes intent as they swept over his female colleagues. "I mean, these are cultures that have NEVER met, and yet every one has some version of a tale of giant, six limbed lizards that breathed fire..."
